LED Lights and their Legacy
In 1962, a scientist by the name of Nick Holonyak Jr. created the very first practical visible light-emitting diode. Companies like GE referred to the light as “the magic one.” In reality, Holonyak was not trying to create a light that would replace incandescent bulbs. However, he was attempting to create a laser. He ended up making a mini semiconductor light which was red and consist of gallium phosphide.
